Beautiful surroundings for climbers
The Bad Sachsa area also offers some interesting climbing opportunities, especially for rock climbing and bouldering enthusiasts. One of the nearby places to climb is the Oker Valley (Okerstal), which is about a half-hour to 45-minute drive from Bad Sachsa.

The Oker Valley, located near Goslar in the Harz, is one of the most popular climbing areas in northern Germany. Famous climbing spots:
- Adlerswand: A classic rock for sport climbing with routes of varying difficulty, ranging from easy to challenging. The rocks are generally well secured, making it a safe option for beginners.
- Herkules Cliffs: This rock formation is known for its more challenging routes and stunning views of the valley. There are routes with fixed hooks as well as opportunities for trad climbing.
- Hexenküche (Witches' Kitchen): This is a popular spot for bouldering enthusiasts. The rocks here offer many opportunities for short, technical climbing routes with challenging moves.

The Brocken is the highest mountain in the Harz and offers many climbing and bouldering opportunities on granite blocks and rock formations around Schierke. The areas around Schierke are popular for bouldering, where you can climb directly on the huge granite blocks.
Difficulty:
There are boulders of various difficulty levels available, from beginner to extremely difficult (2 to 8b). This makes it an ideal location for groups of climbers of different levels.
Surroundings:
It is a beautiful natural area with dense forests and the iconic Brocken mountain in the background. The area is also popular with hikers, so you can combine a day of bouldering with a hike to the top of the Brocken.

The bouldering difficulties and climbing routes range from 4 to 6c, making Königstein a suitable place for both beginners and climbers with more experience looking for challenging but accessible routes.

Located in a quiet area with stunning views of the Harz Mountains, this is a fine place for a short climbing day. The location is ideal for a day trip and also nice to combine with a visit to the nearby town of Bad Lauterberg.

The variety of routes makes it attractive to both sport climbers and trad climbers.

The routes range from 4 to 7c and offer a wide range of challenges. There are many technical climbing routes, ranging from short, intensive routes to longer trad routes that require more experience and equipment.
Surroundings:
The quarry offers a unique atmosphere with imposing high rock walls surrounded by dense forests. Because it is a former quarry, there can sometimes be loose pieces of rock. Wearing a helmet is therefore highly recommended for added safety.

The routes range from 3 to 8a, making the area suitable for climbers of different levels. There are also some nice boulders to be found around the main walls, ideal for those looking for short, powerful routes.
Surroundings:
Ilfelder Klettergarten is located in a wooded area, which provides shady spots - perfect for climbing on warmer days. The peaceful and green landscape makes it an ideal location for a day of climbing adventure in nature.

Routes are usually in the 4 to 6b+ range, making it suitable for a leisurely climbing session.

It is a hidden gem with a peaceful, natural atmosphere. Because it is less known, you can often climb here in peace and quiet without crowds.
