Paragliding

The area around Bad Sachsa, offers excellent opportunities for paragliding. This area of Germany is popular among paragliders because of its impressive views, rolling hills, and stable thermal conditions. Here are some of the best spots around Bad Sachsa where you can paraglide.

Hohenstein in the Südharz

Location: About a 30-minute drive from Bad Sachsa, near Hohenstein.

Description:

The Hohenstein offers steeper slopes and open spaces suitable for paragliding. This spot has less infrastructure than the larger locations such as the Wurmberg, but that's what makes it attractive to pilots who like quiet, less crowded places.

Thermals and Wind:

The Hohenstein offers good thermals in the summer months, especially in southerly and southwesterly winds. The open space makes it easier to land.

Surroundings:

The site is in a picturesque setting, surrounded by the rolling hills of the Harz and vast forests. You have a beautiful view of the Southern Harz.

Ravensberg near Bad Sachsa

Location: Directly near Bad Sachsa.

Description:

The Ravensberg is a small mountain 659 meters high, located directly near Bad Sachsa. Although not as high as the Wurmberg or the Brocken, it provides a convenient location for paragliders who want to stay close. The slopes of the Ravensberg offer good launch opportunities, and you can take short flights from here with views of the town and surrounding forests.

Thermals and Wind:

Ravensberg is best suited for short flights and practicing takeoffs and landings. With the right wind direction (usually south), thermal conditions can be surprisingly good, although less stable than at the larger mountains in the region.

Surroundings:

From the Ravensberg you have views of Bad Sachsa and the surrounding Harz Mountains. It is a perfect spot for a quick run after a day of hiking or for beginners who want to practice.
